Trade Books

We invite you to bring in your gently used books for trade!
Mon – Fri from 1 pm – 5 pm and
Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm

(these are the hours that our trading counter is staffed by a live person; you are more than welcome to drop off your books at our front desk any time that the bookstore is open)

The following guidelines will help you understand our trade program:

GETTING CREDIT – We give trade credit based on the current demand and saleability of a book. Credit is often – but not always – based on a percentage of the original list price of the book and may vary. Your credit stays good forever, as long as you come in at least once a year (either buying or trading) to keep your account active.

USING CREDIT - Credit may be used to cover one-half (1/2) of your used book purchase. The other half (1/2) of the used book must be paid in cash/check/charge. Credit may not be used towards new books, or any other items other than used books.

CONDITION – Please bring in only books that are in clean, readable condition with covers and spines intact. Our condition standards are often a little looser for books in high demand.

- Mold, bugs, strange smells, pet hair and dirt are not very inviting, and we ask that you sort these out before bringing your books in. Books that may pose a hazard to the health of our staff will be returned or disposed of without evaluation.

INVENTORY – We always check books against our current inventory. Due to space limitations, we sometimes have to turn down good quality books. We have our own internal guidelines for how many copies of each book we need in the store. If inventory is the only reason we turn down your book, you’re welcome to try us again another time!

QUANTITY – Due to the sheer number of books we receive in a day, we ask that you limit your trades to two (2) boxes or bags per day. We are happy to make exceptions with advance notice.

RETURNS - If we are unable to use some of your books, we can either a) donate them to the very deserving Friends of the Loveland Library; or b) hold them for 3 days for you to come back and pick them up. On the 4th day, all books will be donated to the Friends of the Library. Please indicate option (a) or option (b) each time you bring in books for trade.

Please ask a staff member if you have any questions.

Thanks!
